CIRCLES
1. Fallout of Addiction

14 September 2021

Finally decided that the whole spiral design will be covered with the inner shiny paper inside of the pack, the camel logo will be cut as shown, and the camel brand itself will be discarded. the Triangular part of the Malboro box will be added after each even sections of multiple circles as shown.
- Also started collecting some Juul packs and pods (I think it might be a cool addition too)

7 September 2021
Brainstorming about the actual design as I took in consideration that it would 100% not look like what I had in mind at first.
- Spiral Structure in progress - 2inch width. Will try both paper and matting board, to see which works best when being hang fro the ceiling.
- Will try scanning and photoshopping the actual boxes and make a design out of the Camel and Marlboro front packages
- All of the CAMEL and Malboro brands will be removed.
- Will take into consideration only the circular camel drawing and the triangle on the Marlboro pack.

19 September 2021
Continued more cutouts and tried to do a small spiral as trial.
29 September
During the critique, the idea of adding boxes dipped in plaster was proposed, also I will be dipping the whole carboard structure in cement on top then the whole in plaster to make it have a solid stand. The structure will be build up from the ground. It should e greyish, smoky like and cigarette butts should be added, and even the even of nicotine could be added, the picture is just my trial cardboard picture- sorry I forgot to take a picture of the finalized cardboard
Very late update
30 October
Used cement, used plaster but the whole structure was too heavy.
Currently doing a metal wire structure, will be spraying foam into it to make the structure less technical and i really think that is the best idea to far to realize this project. I will be adding the cigarette boxes unevenly into the structure and at the very bottom I'll be doing a design with the boxes that i already cut. I will be spray paiting it a dirty grey to make it have a smoky feel.

November 2021
75% done with the sculpture, I masked all the cigarette boxes where 'smoking kills' is written to remove it when I'm done spray painting everything.
Planning to create a design to put at the bottom with the rest of the boxes that remain.
I want the viewer to experience the sculpture by going close to it and looking inside the spiral
December 10
Almost done, will just add the bottom design piece during winter break
2. Climate Change : Painting
9/10/21
Oil painting on round canvas- textured strokes with multiple layers
(final product coming soon, awaiting for materials)
- This piece is about the recent catastrophes that have been happening across the world with the growing wildfire and the icebergs melting and rising the ocean level
- I will be reproducing the enso symbol that symbolizes peace and unity.
- since the ocean is bigger and more uncontrollable than the forest, the stroke will be on the outside.
- the enso symbol will be inverted for disruption
9/14/21
Got the materials! Background done. I'm guessing it will definitely be done by Thursday.
Overall emotions : I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job at managing all of the projects together instead of focusing on only one, but all I need is to get new ideas for the upcoming projects. As a painting major, I am choosing to incorporate my creative skills into other forms (I am not sure if this a good idea but I'm trying!) as I will be focusing on the painting part next semester
9/15/21
Started painting, some more colors need to be added.
December 10
After critic, they all agreed that this piece was not conceptual enough, so I am planning to put half of it in water and half on fire and rotate it along the process to give it a fiery motion look (if it is possible)
3. 3D sculpture - dodecahedron
In 2D, the pentagon looked really good. but I am having trouble putting the three pieces together and finding the right angle to do that.
- Seth told me to make an irregular asymmetric structure instead. It is very tempting, but I feel like it will go away from the theme that I am going for. but can I make an irregular asymmetric circular structure?
- Needs to the thought over again, but in the meantime I will get some Math help to find the right angle.
Exciting but complicated project! I hope I can get it done like I envisioned it.
9/10/21
20 faces with 3 triangle faces. Or maybe less?
or a dodecahedron, twelve pentagon faces.
- wooden bars all interconnected.
- string art around and maybe inside.
- gravity lights? or led lights?

PROJECT PAUSED FOR NOW.
causation : frustration
9/14/21 - Dodecahedron
Width 2inch, length 10inch. I started cutting the wood pieces and put them altogether. I cut them at an angle of 37.5 degrees.
4. Pro choice/abortion/my body my choice
9/12/21
will be done using acrylic carving technique.
- materials needed
1. round wooden board
2. lino cutter
3. LOTS of acrylics- pints of acrylic (32$)
Multiple layering needs to be done, it can done with a palette knife
Technique inspired by Hannah Jensen

Drawing of the female reproductive system, add a twist to the ovaries(don't know yet how)
- same color palette as the flower example below, but again a twist needs to be added.
- SIZE??? - reasonable so that not a lot of paint needed.
9/14/21
Just ordered the lino cutter, will go the Lowes soon to get latex paint instead.
9/17/21
Instead of making the uterus into something signifying dependence. I could just add a price tag to the work (Kaylee suggested that idea!). I personally it is a great concept that would definitely portrait how women do not really have a choice anymore
9/29/21
All materials collected, wooden board ready to be used. 30 inches in diameter (did the cutting and sanding all by myself), ready to start by thursday
late update 10/30/21
On my 25th-30th layer of paint right now.
Will start the carving soon enough.
the uterus will be carved and during the critique I proposed that I would be adding a chain to the eggs but the professors told me it was too literal, so I will be adding mustaches but in contrast with the carving, they will be sticking out.
Seth suggested to do mold but now that I'll be using spray foam, I can even carve small structure out of this.

11/16/21
Started carving the uterus shape, planning to make it less cohesive and more abstract than it is right now.
December 10
After critic, I realized that might just leave it at it is. Or add something more uncomfortable to it. Still thinking about it
5. Unity, Diversity
As an international student in the USA, I saw a lot of diversity visiting around, but I also realized the self segregation of cultures and community, for example there will be a chinatown, a mexican community or an asian community or a black community in any city around the USA. In a way it does represent diversity but also how each community find peace within their own race, culture.
30 October
Working on the hands at the moment. I will be changing the background to have a more unified color and I will be cutting the middle part and doing some thread work just to represent unity and the hands of different colors reaching out to the same color of hands.
November 2021
Changed the background, did the details of the hands. I just need to go over some hands once more and do the thread art in the middle and it will be done.

I was born and raised on Mauritius, a small island located off the South West Coast of the African continent s. Nurtured in an Indian culture, I was always told that art is only a hobby and the way to success is science. I always viewed art as a luxury and how I had to study and work for a well paid job to be able to do my passion as a hobby. Growing up, I realized how competition was such a prominent aspect in life and how society would live for money and by money. I realized how we no longer seek happiness but stability because we have no other choice. There was no artistic outlet for me, so my first visual inspirations were birthed from geometric forms. This runs through my work today, except much less literally.
As a young progressive woman, I see myself capable of making an impact with my art, and I aspire to continue to do so in the future. I always felt unheard and invisible and with my art I feel that what I could not explain in words could be visually expressed and acknowledged.
Everything is connected. Reverberations of my entire perspective echo as circles. The world is a circle. My life cycle is a circle. The life cycle of my family and friends is a circle. This is how I see the world. My series “Circles” is a visual creative manifestation of these ideas; how time experienced perception, human folly all snapped back to their point of origins. I am progressing from a narrative surrealism artist to a conceptual artist because as I am growing up, I can see my perspective shifting more towards societal concerns and how I am utilizing art to express this. My current topics for this series represents climate change, abortion, segregation of culture, self identity and addiction. I want my viewers to feel intimidated and awkward about my pieces because I view art as a subject that should not only be seen as beautiful but also impactful.
